VIS History
In December 2016, the First Vitiligo International Symposium (VIS) was held in Rome, Italy. It was attended by approximately 200 scientists and clinicians who are involved in vitiligo research and treatment. Since then, significant progress has been made on the understanding of the molecular pathways of vitiligo, which led to the development of several drugs (some now on clinical trials).
Sub-groups of the above investigators and clinicians have met at various meetings, the last one being in Paris in April 2018. They met to specifically discuss the imaging technology that has become important to objectively quantify the improvement of vitiligo, which is needed for new drug development and eventually FDA approval.
